The seven blockbuster deals that could go through on transfer deadline day
THE Premier League transfer window closes later today, with several clubs still looking to bolster their squads before the 5pm deadline.
Transfer deadline day: Round-up of rumoured last minute deals
With the new season a matter of days away, managers will be hoping to put the finishing touches on their respective squads.
But as is so often the case with the transfer window, several deals have yet to be completed.
Arsenal, Tottenham, and Manchester United are just three of the teams who are yet to conclude their business, much to the frustration to their respective fans.
Here are seven transfers that could and are expected to go through before this evening’s 5pm deadline:
Kieran Tierney to Arsenal
Arsenal’s long and frustrating pursuit of Celtic defender Kieran Tierney is set to come to an end today.
The Gunners have been chasing the left-back’s signature for the duration of the summer, with manager Unai Emery making his signing one of his top priorities.
Celtic were steadfast in their refusal to part company with the Scotland international, rejecting two bids for the 22-year-old.
The Scottish champions, however, have accepted a £25million bid for the defender, who flew to London last night to undergo his medical with the north Londoners.
Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan
Romelu Lukaku’s days as a Manchester United player look set to come to an end today, with Italian giants Inter Milan acquiring his services.
The San Siro club have been looking to sign the Belgium international for several weeks, tabling two offers for the 26-year-old.
Their initial bids fell way short of United’s £75million valuation of the former Chelsea man.
An improved offer has been accepted by United, who have yet to sign a replacement for the Belgian, and is expected to be finalised in the next few hours.
Ryan Sessegnon to Tottenham
Like their north London rivals Arsenal, Tottenham have been chasing the signature of Fulham youngster Ryan Sessegnon for some time.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has been a long-term admirer of the 19-year-old, who played a key role in Fulham’s promotion back to the Premier League two seasons ago.
It’s understood last season’s beaten Champions League finalists have been putting the finishing touches on a £25million deal for the left-back, which Championship residers Fulham are expected to accept.
Wilfried Zaha to Everton
Crystal Palace may be playing hardball with Wilfried Zaha, but the Ivory Coast international will more than likely leave Selhurst Park today.
Zaha has handed in a transfer request after Palace rejected a cash-plus-player offer for his services, which would’ve seen them pocket £70million.
Everton are understood to be confident of bringing the 26-year-old to Merseyside as they believe his transfer request has backed Palace - whom they play on Saturday afternoon - into a corner.
An improved bid is expected to be launched early doors, with the offer expected to be in the region of £75million.
David Luiz to Arsenal
Perhaps the shock transfer of this window will be David Luiz’s move from Chelsea to Arsenal.
The Brazilian centre-back went on strike on Wednesday in order to force through a stunning switch to the Emirates, which will help alleviate the Gunners’ defensive woes.
An £8million deal has been agreed and all that remains is for the former PSG star to undergo his medical before putting pen to paper.
Mario Mandzukic to Manchester United
Manchester United are expected to offset Lukaku’s departure from Old Trafford with the signing of Juventus hitman Mario Mandzukic.
Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer set his sights on the Croatia international after the club’s pursuit of his team-mate Paulo Dybala collapsed last weekend.
Talks are said to be progressing well, with Juve open to parting company with the 33-year-old. His move to the Theatre of Dreams, however, rests solely on United offloading Lukaku to Inter.
Giovanni Lo Celso to Tottenham
Another player set to arrive at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is Argentina international Giovanni Lo Celso.
Spurs have been chasing the Real Betis ace’s signature for several weeks, with the club viewing him as a like-for-like replacement for wantaway midfielder Christian Eriksen.
A £55million fee has been agreed and Lo Celso is expected to fly to England today to undergo his medical and pen a lucrative contract with the north Londoners.
