Man Utd hope to take advantage of ‘big issue’ Tottenham have with Christian Eriksen
MANCHESTER UNITED will look to take advantage of a big issue Tottenham have with Christian Eriksen, according to Sky Sports expert Dharmesh Sheth.
Man Utd: Eriksen transfer links discussed by Burley
Manchester United are in the market for a new midfielder after losing Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini this summer.
Ed Woodward is expected to make a move for Eriksen after Spurs opened talks with Barcelona over a loan deal for Philippe Coutinho.
If the former Liverpool midfielder moves to north London it could allow them to sell Eriksen to United.
But the Dane is out of contract next summer so Sheth feels Spurs may have an issue with attempting to demand a big fee.
“This potential could be huge,” Sheth told Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk.
“These developments [with Coutinho] could add weight to United’s interest in Eriksen.
“They are considering making an official move for him before Thursday’s deadline.
“Eriksen’s contract status, that is the big issue here for Tottenham Hotspurs.
“They won’t need reminding that he has entered the final year and he said earlier on in the summer that he would like to try something new.
“He said he was happy at Tottenham, he loves the fans and would not rule out signing a new contract.
“But Tottenham are in a delicate situation here. They will attempt to get market value before Thursday if Manchester United go in for him.”
However, Sheth thinks a move to United would be more beneficial for Spurs than if Eriksen was sold to a La Liga side.
Tottenham: Eriksen transfer is ‘his decision’ says Pochettino
“If he doesn’t leave and subsequently doesn’t sign a new contract at Tottenham, clubs in Spain especially have until September 2 to strike a deal for Christian Eriksen,” he added.
“And it is likely they will go in with lower offers knowing Tottenham risk losing him for free next summer.
“He can sign a pre-contract agreement in January.”
