‘He better not start against Chelsea’ - Man Utd fans all slam one player for AC Milan goal
MANCHESTER UNITED fans have slammed Nemanja Matic for his role in AC Milan’s goal during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s final pre-season match in Cardiff, and they’ve urged the boss to not start him against Chelsea in the Premier League.
Manchester United squad arrives for AC Milan clash
Manchester United are facing AC Milan in their final pre-season fixture before the new Premier League season.
Despite taking an early lead through Marcus Rashford, Milan quickly equalised with a curled effort from the edge of the box.
Matic was culpable for former Liverpool midfielder Suso’s equaliser, and fans were not happy with his performance.
They took to social media to bemoan that the Serbian was slow to react in the build-up to Suso's goal, and should be sold by Solskjaer before the end of the transfer window.
Matic is an absolute donkey. He better not start against Chelsea
“Matic is an absolute donkey. He better not start against Chelsea,” said one United fan.
“Matic better not start any game next season,” added another.
A third United fan tweeted: “Can't allow Matic to continue - he’s not one of ur Players and he’s done nothing to deserve a starting berth in this team this Summer - time to move on.”
“Get rid of Matic. He’s a pensioner,” claimed another United fan.
“Matic the dinosaur gifts them a goal,” added another.
“Can’t wait for another season of Static Matic,” claimed one Twitter user.
“Matic again”, “Sell Matic”, and “Matic out” were also tweeted by angry fans.
Matic was one of Jose Mourinho’s signings during the Portuguese manager’s two-and-a-half year spell at Old Trafford.
He was bought from Chelsea for £40million in 2017, and has since made 87 appearances for the Red Devils.
But the Serb has failed to impress the United fans since his arrival.
Matic is Solskjaer’s only true defensive midfield player, and the only player that the club have been linked with during the transfer window that could fill his shoes would be Mario Lemina.
However, it appears that the Southampton midfielder is more likely to make a move to Everton over United if he departs the Saints at all.
Meanwhile, United kick off their Premier League season at home to Frank Lampard’s Chelsea on Sunday August 11.
