Dybala has been linked with a swap deal that could see United striker Romelu Lukaku moving the other way to Juventus.
However, Sky Sports news reporter Kaveh Solhekol claims that Manchester United are putting together a plan B that will come into effect if they fail to sign Dybala.
The Red Devils are also keeping tabs on the Argentina international’s team-mate Mandzukic who will only cost £13million and is also said to be keen on a move.
Sky in Italy also report that United want to sign both the Croatia international and Dybala before the transfer window slams shut on Thursday.
We're hearing that Mario Mandzukic is only a back-up option in the swap deal if Manchester United can't get Paulo Dybala
Solhekol said: ”He's a great player and he has a great record at clubs like Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid.
"He's been fantastic for Croatia, scoring crucial goals at the World Cup in Russia.
"Manchester United have wanted him for a long time.
“He's a target man, totally different to Paulo Dybala.
"We're hearing that Mario Mandzukic is only a back-up option in the swap deal if Manchester United can't get Paulo Dybala.
“But our colleagues in Italy are saying that Manchester United want both Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic.
"If they were to sign Mario Mandzukic he would cost about £13m.
“He would give Manchester United a different kind of option going forward, and crucially, he wants to come to the Premier League."
Mandzukic has amassed 162 appearances as well as 44 goals and 24 assists for Juventus.
The 33-year-old has also won four consecutive Serie A titles as well as three Coppa Italia trophies.
