Man Utd icon Wayne Rooney gives verdict on Harry Maguire as signing edges closer
MANCHESTER UNITED have been told that Harry Maguire would be a “good signing”, as the club closes in on a deal for the centre-back.
Harry Maguire would be a 'good signing for United' says Rooney
That’s according to Manchester United icon Wayne Rooney.
United are on the hunt for a new centre-back, with Maguire their current top target.
After failing to sign him last summer, United have made two bids for the Leicester stalwart.
United conceded 54 goals in the Premier League last year, the most of any side in the top nine.
And with Eric Bailly out until Christmas, Ole Gunnar Solskjear needs to act quickly in order to avoid a repeat of that this year.
So far, they’ve made two signings in this summer’s transfer window, but are expected to make another three signings before the window closes.
And Rooney implored the club to make a move for Maguire, despite Leicester reportedly upping their valuation of the star to £90million.
“Yeah I think Harry’s a good player," he told ESPN FC.
“Over the last few years he’s improved and got better and he’s been a main player for Leicester City but also for England.
“I think he’d be a good signing if they can get him.”
It has been a relatively mixed window for United, who are unable to attract players with the lure of playing in the Champions League.
They are, however, believed to be closing in on a deal to sign Paulo Dybala from Juventus.

The Argentine forward is set to be included in a swap deal for Romelu Lukaku.
And Rooney hinted that United fans could see a few more faces coming in.
“There’s still a bit of time to go before the transfer window ends," he continued.
“I’m sure behind the scenes they’re working hard to bring in the players which they want.”
