MANCHESTER UNITED have told Leicester they won’t be paying their £90m valuation of Harry Maguire, as the defender eyes a transfer to Old Trafford.
Man United need to sign centre-back 'fairly soon' says pundit
Manchester United have told Leicester City that they won’t be bullied into paying over-the-odds for Harry Maguire, according to The Mirror.
Maguire has been linked with a move to Old Trafford since the end of last season, and a deal appeared to be edging closer.
United had a £70m bid for the England international turned down already, but Leicester are demanding a higher bid for the deal to progress.
Maguire is reportedly keen on a move to Old Trafford, although a switch to Manchester City was his initial preferred move.
Leicester have slapped a massive £90m price tag on Harry Maguire
Leicester have slapped a massive £90m price tag on Maguire as the time remaining in the transfer window drops to just over a week.
It was believed that the Foxes wanted £80m for the centre-back, but that valuation has since increased.
United, meanwhile, are unwilling to pay more than £70m according to the Mirror, and it looks like the negotiation has now stalled.
The Red Devils held talks with Leicester on Monday in a bid to push the deal through, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
“Man Utd are in talks with Leicester for Maguire mate, also today they had contacts,” Romano wrote on Twitter, in response to a United fan’s question.
“But not agreed yet. Maguire is pushing, let’s see!”
Maguire missed training on Monday - apparently through illness - which further fuelled transfer speculation.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is desperate to add Maguire to his squad this summer, especially after an injury to Eric Bailly in a pre-season fixture against Tottenham.
After the end of last season, United fans wanted additions to their defensive line.
Solskjaer responded by spending £50m on Crystal Palace right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
He also splashed £15m on youngster Daniel James from Swansea, but he’s yet to buy any new centre-backs.
Maguire is believed to be Solskjaer’s preferred choice of centre-half to start the new season.
