Man Utd urged not to sign Paulo Dybala and told to buy other transfer targets instead
MANCHESTER UNITED should not sign Paulo Dybala because he is not the type of player to lead the rebuild they so desperately need.
Paulo Dybala to Man Utd 'doesn't make sense' claims Nicol
That is according to ESPN FC pundit and Liverpool legend Steve Nicol.
Dybala has been linked with a move to Manchester United after falling out of favour at Juventus last season.
Reports suggest there could be a possible swap deal that sees United striker Romelu Lukaku head in the opposite direction.
But Nicol does not think United are at the stage where they can have a player like Dybala in their team.
He’s the guy you put on the top once you’ve got all the foundations
He admits the Red Devils need new signings but believes there are other targets who would benefit them more in the short term.
“Dybala has to go into a side that’s already settled, who does more attacking than defending and who generally are bossing the game,” Nicol said.
“Then that way you’ve got a guy 30 yards from goals who can do his magic.
“Manchester United are so far away from that.
“Yes I understand they have to bring players in.
“But he’s not the type of guy to start it, he’s the guy you put on the top once you’ve got all the foundations.”
Former Arsenal midfielder Stewart Robson agrees with Nicol that Dybala is not the right man for United.
“He’s the icing on the cake isn’t he,” Robson said.
“If you’ve got a really good team, a strong team through the middle, and you want that little bit of extra creativity, Dybala’s the man.
“For Manchester United at the moment, they don’t need that sort of a player.
“They’ve got to get that solidity through the middle, they’ve got to make sure they’ve got stronger players, stronger characters as well before they can get somebody like Dybala.”
