HUDDERSFIELD TOWN fans will be able to buy the controversial Paddy Power sash shirt.
Paddy Power hilariously discuss Huddersfield sponsorship ideas
The Terriers unveiled their supposed new home shirt that featured an extravagant logo of the bookmakers emblazoned across the front on Wednesday.
Fans were furious after the players wore it in a pre-season friendly win over Rochdale but it was later revealed as a prank.
However, Express Sport can reveal the kit will be available to buy and the proceeds will be donated to charity after club insiders decided to offer up the kits that were used in the friendly.
Shortly after the prank, Huddersfield launched their actual official kit and the shirt will not a feature a sponsor on the front at all.
Paddy Power will remain their shirt sponsor but have forfeited the right to have their logo on show.
The bookmaker claimed the publicity stunt was part of their Save our Shirt campaign which is calling on brands and fellow betting companies to stop sponsoring football shirts.
Paddy Power MD, Victor Corcoran, said: “Shirt sponsorship in football has gone too far.
“We accept that there is a role for sponsors around football, but the shirt should be sacred.
“So today we are calling on other sponsors to join the Save Our Shirt campaign, and give something back to the fans.
“As a sponsor, we know our place, and it’s not on your shirt.”
Huddersfield commercial director Sean Jarvis admitted he knew fans might be upset with the stunt initially but hopes they can see the bigger picture.
“We’re happy to support Paddy Power’s ‘Save Our Shirt’ campaign with the launch of our actual 2019/20 home kit this morning,” Jarvis said.
“It has been a very interesting two days’ since the original launch on Wednesday, which we expected, but we’ve always had in mind that our supporters would understand, and really like the real kit when it was properly revealed today.”
“We’re really happy with this kit, which is unique in modern-day football. I’d like to thank Paddy Power, Umbro and everyone else involved in the kit for their hard work towards today.”
Huddersfield’s official new kit is made by Umbro and features the traditional blue and white stripes with no sponsor.
After relegation from the Premier League last season, they will get their Championship campaign underway at home to Derby on August 5.
