The four-word text message that will get Newcastle United fans excited over new signing
NEWCASTLE UNITED are seemingly getting closer to making their first signing of the summer transfer window.
Steve Bruce appointed as Newcastle United manager
Newcastle announced the appointment of Steve Bruce as their new manager on Wednesday.
Many Magpies supporters have made their negative feelings clear at Bruce’s arrival, with the former Manchester United defender replacing fan-favourite Rafa Benitez at St James’ Park.
But it appears Bruce is going to be backed in the transfer market by the much-maligned owner Mike Ashley.
Sky Sports reported on Wednesday Newcastle will have up to £91million to spend in the remaining three weeks of the window.
Joelinton to Newcastle progressing
Hoffenheim striker Joelinton is in talks with Newcastle over a possible club-record £36m move.
The Bundesliga club confirmed on their Twitter account Joelinton was speaking to a Premier League side.
“He is in concrete negotiations with a Premier League club,” the tweet read.
“It may be that he leaves us.”
And Sky Sports presenter Jim White has now revealed what he knows about the deal.
He claims he received a text message from someone involved in the transfer on Wednesday evening.
“I’m just getting a message tonight,” White said.
“'Joelinton to Newcastle progressing.'
Newcastle: Mike Ashley ‘can’t be faulted’ says Kevin Nolan
“That’s from someone who’s close to this deal tonight.”
Joelinton, 22, has scored seven goals in 27 Bundesliga appearances for Hoffenheim.
He had a couple of years on loan at Rapid Vienna where he scored 21 goals in 79 appearances in all competitions.
