Tottenham transfer talks with Giovani Lo Celso off: Christian Eriksen holds key
TOTTENHAM transfer target Giovani Lo Celso won’t be signing for Spurs from Real Betis this summer, unless Mauricio Pochettino can strike a deal for Christian Eriksen.
Tottenham Hotspur: Giovani Lo Celso is a 'top player' says fan
Tottenham’s deal for Lo Celso has broken down because the clubs can’t agree on a fair price, according to Sky Sports.
Real Betis were reportedly holding out for £67m (€75m), but Spurs couldn’t justify the funds after splashing £60m on Tanguy Ndombele.
But, Pochettino would be willing to revisit the deal if he can offload want-away midfielder Eriksen before the end of the transfer window.
The sale would significantly boost Tottenham’s transfer budget, as they would be hoping for around £62m (€70m) from the deal.
Lo Celso has been strongly linked with a move to Totenham
Lo Celso has been strongly linked with a move to North East London since the end of the season.
The Argentina international wants to join Tottenham, and is still hoping that a deal could get over the line.
The Real Betis midfielder has an £88m release clause, but the La Liga side would accept a deal worth £67m.
The 23-year-old has impressed after a successful first season in Spain.
He scored nine goals, and made four assists in his 27 league appearances for Real Betis last season.
He had previously played for Paris Saint-Germain, after signing from Rosario Central, in Argentina, in 2016.
Meanwhile, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is reportedly doing everything in his power to convince Real Madrid to sign Eriksen.
He initially set an asking price of £134m (€150m) for the Dane, but has since slashed that valuation to £62m (€70m).
Eriksen shocked Spurs fans last month by revealing his intention to find a new club this summer.
“I feel that I am at a stage of my career where I would like to try something new,” Eriksen told Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet.
“I have the deepest respect for everything that is happening at Tottenham, and it would not be something negative to stay.
“But I have also said that I would like to try something new.”
