How Arsenal could look on first day of the season with four new signings
ARSENAL are set for a busy transfer window this summer, with Unai Emery determined to overhaul his squad.
Wilfried Zaha to Arsenal is the right move says pundit
The Spaniard is planning to make wholesale changes to his squad before the transfer window shuts on August 8.
Emery, who succeeded Arsene Wenger as Gunners boss in May 2018, is understood to be keen on bringing in at least four new faces to the Emirates this summer.
Top of that list is Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha, who is keen to leave Selhurst Park this summer.
Signing the Ivory Coast international will prove to be a difficult job, though, as Palace want close to £80million for the 26-year-old.
And, at this moment in time, Arsenal only have £45million available to them this summer.
As well as boosting his side’s attacking prowess, Emery is keen to bring in defensive reinforcements.
St-Etienne centre-back William Saliba is on the Gunners’ radar following a stellar debut season with the Ligue 1 side.
It’s been reported Emery is willing to splash out £22.5million to acquire the 18-year-old’s services.
Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney is also being eyed, though the north Londoner’s £15million bid for the Scotland international has been rejected by the Hoops.
Belgium international Denis Praet is also reportedly a target for Emery, who is seeking a midfielder to replace the recently departed Aaron Ramsey.
Should Emery land all four players, Arsenal will be in significantly better shape to challenge for Champions League football.
Here’s how they could line-up next season:
Potential Arsenal starting XI for the 2019-20 season: Leno, Bellerin, Sokratis, Saliba, Koscielny, Tierney; Praet, Torreira; Aubameyang, Zaha; Lacazette
Arsenal fans across the globe are hoping Emery will be given necessary funds to bolster his squad.
Former Gunners star Jimmy Carter hopes the ex-Sevilla manager is backed in the transfer window, saying: “They have massive rebuilding problems.
“They need to recruit and recruit well. They have problems at the back, Sokratis and Mustafi are not good enough and need to go and Monreal is not a centre-half. He is a decent left back at best. Centre-back needs addressing.
Arsenal want a central defender claims Ornstein
"Midfield needs strengthening as losing Aaron Ramsey is complete madness to Juventus.
“Torreira, give him another chance; he is decent and tenacious. Xhaka is very inconsistent. I don’t think he is good enough for Arsenal. Lacazette and Aubameyang are brilliant and without their goals, I don’t know where Arsenal would be.
“For me though, I defend Unai Emery as he did a decent job last season apart from the defending in the Europa League final.
"It just shows how far they are behind. There’s a rebuilding programme at Arsenal that needs to happen. The recruitment needs to be spot on or they are in trouble."
