Tottenham close to Tanguy Ndombele and Jack Clarke deals as Leeds ace arrives for medical
TOTTENHAM boss Mauricio Pochettino looks as if he is finally going to get his wish as the club close in on their first two summer signings.
Tanguy Ndombele: Lyon star shows impressive midfield skills
The Argentine issued a defiant indirect message to chairman Daniel Levy before the Champions League final claiming that Spurs need to embark on a new era now their state-of-the-art stadium has been opened.
Tottenham have not made a signing since January 2018, when Lucas Moura joined from Paris Saint-Germain on deadline day.
But it now looks as if Levy is finally ready to put his hands in his pockets as Spurs close in on two deals.
According to Leeds United reporter Phil Hay, formerly of the Yorkshire Evening Post, Jack Clarke is in London for a medical.
Tottenham will pay Leeds £10million up front, which also includes a sell-on clause.
Leeds will also have a first option to loan I’m back if Spurs decide to send him out at any stage.
Clarke may not be the only new arrival this week.
According to Sky Sports, Tottenham have agreed a club-record fee of £55.5m with Lyon for the signing of Tanguy Ndombele.
The Frenchman has set his eyes on a move to north London and the fee would surpass the £42m Spurs paid Ajax to sign Davinson Sanchez in August 2017.
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has revealed that the Ligue 1 outfit are already drawing up plans to replace their star midfielder.
“We don't have to sell, but if there's a big offer the door isn't closed,” the CEO said.
“If Tanguy Ndombele has to leave, we'll target new players and Thiago Mendes is one of those players that interests our recruitment team.
“Tanguy Ndombele is pragmatic, he did not say: 'tomorrow I'm definitely leaving'. He has been followed by the big clubs and when they come in [for your players], you have to listen.
Leeds United: Clarke and Shackleton describe each other
“We really need substantial proposals to move forward on Tanguy's future, which will eventually require him to leave.
“If he were to leave, which is not the case today, we should sign [a replacement] based on previous experience.
“For now nothing is done, but the door isn't closed. A deadline? No. We should not say that, but it's for good reason that we do not need any money until June 30 to present our accounts. If he wants to stay, I'll be happy.”
Tottenham are optimistic they can close the deal, with Lyon now resigned to losing the French international.
