Arsenal urged to forget Wilfried Zaha and sign other transfer targets instead
ARSENAL do not need to sign Wilfried Zaha and must look to strengthen other areas, claims ESPN FC pundit Alejandro Moreno.
Arsenal have been linked with a summer move for Crystal Palace star Zaha.
Goalscoring and creativity was not necessarily the Gunners’ main problem last season though.
Unai Emery’s side conceded 51 goals in the Premier League, more than the likes of Newcastle, Leicester and Everton.
Moreno says if Arsenal were looking to improve in the attacking third with the signing of Zaha, then they would need to ship out several players first.
I don’t think this is a guy that you go after if you’re Arsenal
But he can see whatever money is available being spent on other areas on the pitch.
“No, Arsenal need other types of players,” Moreno said when asked of a potential Zaha deal.
“So unless you move away from some of the struggles that you’ve had with your attacking players, except [Alexandre] Lacazette and [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang, the rest you can say ‘maybe, if you move those guys you can go after Wilfried Zaha’.
“I don’t think this is a guy that you go after if you’re Arsenal.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira is linked with a move back to Serie A with AC Milan.
But Moreno says there is no way the Gunners should let the Uruguayan leave.
“Maybe Lucas Torreira wants to move and maybe he feels like he will be a better fit somewhere else,” he continued.
“But if you’re Arsenal, you don’t let this guy go.
“You can make an argument that he was one of the more consistent players that they had, certainly in the midfield.
“He was one of the guys that you’d say ‘okay, we know what we’re going to get out of Lucas Torreira. We don’t know what we’re going to get from Granit Xhaka’.
“One day [Xhaka's] good, another day not so good. Torreira usually gives you a solid performance.
“You need guys like this and Arsenal, they’re building a good thing, you don’t want to get rid of good players when you’re building a good thing.”
