What Manchester United must do after completing Aaron Wan-Bissaka transfer - Robson
MANCHESTER UNITED must improve Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s “footballing ability” if he completes a move from Crystal Palace.
Man United will develop Aaron Wan-Bissaka claims pundit
That is according to ESPN FC pundit and former Arsenal midfielder Stewart Robson.
Manchester United are said to be nearing a deal for England Under-21 international Wan-Bissaka.
United had a bid rejected of around £50m for the right-back but an initial fee of around £42.5m is reportedly close to completion.
Express Sport understands Palace want to remove the sell-on clause United have for winger Wilfried Zaha if Wan-Bissaka ends up at Old Trafford.
First and foremost he’s a good defender and then I think Manchester United will develop his footballing ability
Robson is a fan of the 21-year-old, who made 35 Premier League appearances for Crystal Palace last season.
He has been impressed with his defensive attributes but says on the ball he can still improve.
“A good defender first and foremost,” Robson said of Wan-Bissaka.
“Very rarely when I’ve seen people, good attackers, run at him, is he beaten.
“He’s got good pace, he’s quick on the turn, he gets into good positions.
“So first and foremost he’s a good defender and then I think Manchester United will develop his footballing ability.
“But he must be a good defender first and I think he is.”
Meanwhile ex-Arsenal striker Paul Mariner says Wan-Bissaka is one of United’s best options to target at right-back this summer.
“I like the player, I think he’s got a lot of growth in him,” Mariner said.
“He gets up and down very well, he defends very well which is something that we don’t see too often nowadays.
“He likes to defend, he closes the ball down.
“To me he’s one of the better right-backs that Manchester United could go after."
