Man Utd transfer target Aaron Wan-Bissaka fired warning as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plots deal
MANCHESTER UNITED full-back Diogo Dalot has said he aims to cement his spot as first-choice right-back despite speculation linking Aaron Wan-Bissaka with a move to Old Trafford.
Despite a supposed big-money move for the Crystal Palace right-back, Diogo Dalot says he wants to prove to Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that he should be the club’s first choice next season.
The Portuguese youngster was signed by former manager Jose Mourinho in 2018 and was viewed by The Special One as the long-term replacement for Antonio Valencia who was released by the club this summer.
Dalot made 16 appearances last season in the Premier League but the ageing Ashley Young was often preferred to the 20-year-old.
However, after a string of high profile mistakes, the Red Devils are plotting to replace the 33-year-old with Wan-Bissaka.
United reportedly had an initial £40million bid for 21-year-old rejected and their follow-up offer of £50m was also rejected.
Crystal Palace are said to be holding out for £60m for Wan-Bissaka who is currently on England under-21s duty.
Should the 20-time league Champions refuse to meet that valuation then the deal may well fall through.
That would then leave an opening at right-back which Dalot is keen to fill.
Man Utd: Wan-Bissaka transfer ‘surprising’ claims Castles
“I just need to push on,” he said.
“My goal is to make right-back my own.
“I know that some people thought I might come here and not play as much as I have.
“Some people thought I would play more.
”We all have different opinions but, overall, I think it was a very good season to settle in, start to know the club, know the league, know the atmosphere and now there is no excuse for next season.
”I only started playing properly and had my fitness in December, so it's been very good for me to have the opportunity to play in some different positions.
“I want to make my statement in the team and play as much as I can at right-back because, I think it's my best position. I just need to prove that to the manager with my work.”
