Romelu Lukaku 'ready' to leave Man Utd after crunch talks - Belgium boss Roberto Martinez
MANCHESTER UNITED have told Romelu Lukaku that he can leave Old Trafford this transfer window, provided that a good offer is on the table, it’s been claimed.
Manchester United: Lukaku made transfer difficult says pundit
Man United would be open to Lukaku moving to another club this summer, according to Belgium manager Roberto Martinez.
It would benefit both parties for the striker to find a way out of Old Trafford, he added.
Lukaku said last week that he expected to have a busy summer, but we’ll have to wait and see how the transfer window develops.
The Belgian has been linked with a move to Inter Milan, ever since the arrival of new manager Antonio Conte.
Romelu is ready for something new
“I think the situation is quite clear,” Martinez told Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws.
“Romelu Lukaku and Manchester United have spoken to each other. It’s been quite open that a move would be beneficial for both parties. The next step is to find the right destination.
“Romelu is ready for something new. I'm not worried about ‘Rom’.
“He can play anywhere and is always good with the Red Devils - but I want my players to be happy.”
Reading between the lines, it’s clear that United have told Lukaku he can move on, claimed journalist Kristof Terreur.
“Read as: Lukaku has been told that he’s allowed to leave Manchester United if a good offer comes in,” he wrote on Twitter.
Lukaku had an underwhelming season for United, scoring just 12 goals in 32 Premier League appearances.
He was also criticised by fans for his apparent lack of effort and wastefulness.
It’s been reported that the striker has decided to leave United after being told that he’d be playing second fiddle to Marcus Rashford next season.
He’s long been tipped with a move to Italy to link up with Conte at Inter.
Conte had previously tried to sign Lukaku while he was the manager of Chelsea.
Meanwhile, Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial could also be leaving Old Trafford this summer.
