Chelsea transfer news: Darren Bent urges ace to leave Blues this summer
CHELSEA striker Tammy Abraham must once again leave the club on loan this summer to strengthen his international credentials.
Tammy Abraham reveals WHY he stayed at Aston Villa
That is the opinion of former Tottenham and England striker Darren Bent.
Chelsea academy graduate Abraham spent the entirety of last season on loan at Aston Villa.
He helped Villa to promotion back to the Premier League, scoring 25 goals in 37 Championship games.
Abraham’s two caps for England to date came back in 2017 in friendlies against Germany and Brazil.
I think he holds it up better than Rashford does, Kane is obviously the best at that
And Bent believes a full season in the Premier League at Villa would help him catch the eye of Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate.
“I don’t know if Tammy Abraham should be in this England team now, but I don’t think he’s too far away,” Bent told talkSPORT.
“I’ve seen him a lot this season and I’m a big fan of his.
“I think he offers something different.
“If you look at the strikers England have got at the moment in this squad – Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford, Callum Wilson, I don’t think he’s too far off that.
“I think he holds it up better than Rashford does, Kane is obviously the best at that and Wilson is a big strong physical presence.
“But I feel if he goes back to Aston Villa next season and spends another year on loan in the Premier League and plays week-in week-out, then I think he’s got a great chance.”
Following Villa’s play-off final win, Abraham confirmed he would stay at Chelsea if they wanted him to.
“The aim is to be at the highest level and playing the best football and, if Chelsea say they need me there, I will put in 100 per cent,” he said.
“I am a person who believes in myself. So, wherever I am at, I believe I will get in and play and score goals.”
