Nations League: Gareth Southgate previews ‘important’ match
Hosts Portugal saw off Switzerland in their Nations League clash with a hat-trick by home hero Cristiano Ronaldo in Porto.
The Juventus striker was in deadly form to send his side on their way to the final, where they will meet Holland, who beat England in extra time.
The finals are an exciting end to the inaugural edition of a tournament designed to make international games between European teams more meaningful for fans and players.
Each of the 55 national associations involved in the group stages shared in the total prize fund of around £66.6m, with their share increasing according to their league.
Four leagues make up the group stage of the tournament and the highest ranked teams, such as England and Portugal, started in League A.
Teams who finish bottom of their groups, as was the fate of the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland in League B, are relegated into the league below.
Each league is split into groups and the winners of each group receive an additional bonus prize, doubling the basic amount they earn.
By winning their groups in League A, England, Holland, Portugal and Switzerland received a second boost of £2.6m.
The amount each group winner receives rises or falls as they progress or are relegated between leagues.
For example, although France, Italy and Spain each received £1.3m for their places in League A, they could have doubled that amount had they finished top of their groups.
The final four-team knockout in Portugal decides who wins the tournament and pockets the most prize money.
