Liverpool urged to make these THREE signings to close Manchester City gap by ESPN pundit
LIVERPOOL must make three additions to their squad this summer to once again shorten the gap between themselves and Manchester City.
Liverpool need to sign new players says Craig Burley
That is according to ESPN FC pundit and former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley.
Liverpool finished second in the Premier League table on a club-record 97 points.
However it still was not enough to topple City, who finished one point clear at the top.
Liverpool did win the Champions League though but Burley says manager Jurgen Klopp must not rest on his laurels in the transfer market.
I think an extra body in midfield as well because I think James Milner is 33.
Burley says another centre-back and midfielder is needed as well as a top striker.
He does not think Divock Origi, despite scoring some vital goals this season, is the answer for Liverpool.
“Another centre-half for sure,” Burley said.
“A real quality one to partner Van Dijk. [Joel] Matip's done okay and they’ve got [Dejan] Lovren there as well.
“Joe Gomez can play centre-half, has played centre-half, but has had his injuries.
“I think an extra body in midfield as well because I think James Milner is 33. As fit as he is, I [still] think an extra midfielder [is needed].
“And then I think a guy that can put the ball in the back of the net.
“No [Origi has not done enough to fill that role]. I think he’s done enough to keep himself in the squad, if that’s what they want.
“But no, I don’t think [he is the answer]. He’s had a purple patch in these big games and that’s great.
“But I think over the course of a season, if you look at City, if [Sergio] Aguero's out [Gabriel] Jesus comes in.
“And you see the issues Chelsea had with the strikers, it’s such an important position.
“Arsenal have got two in [Alexandre] Lacazette and [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang, so I think another one [is needed at Liverpool].”
