Chelsea star sends 'betrayal' warning to Maurizio Sarri amid Juventus rumours
CHELSEA midfielder Jorginho has warned Maurizio Sarri that his pending move to Juventus will feel like a betrayal for Napoli fans.
Chelsea appointed former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri as manager like summer after the Italian side came agonisingly close to beating Juventus to the Serie A title.
The former Empoli coach wasted no time in bringing one player with him to Stamford Bridge, and picked Italy international Jorginho.
Both Sarri and his playmaker have received criticism during their first season in west London, but ended the season on a high with a win over Arsenal in the Europa League final.
Reports suggest that Sarri will not remain in his role next season, and has already received an offer from Juventus, but Jorginho has warned him that it the move isn’t without its risks.
“He did a good job for Chelsea,” Jorginho said whilst on international duty.
“There was some criticism, but ultimately we finished third, won a cup and lost another in a final.
“I think it was a great season, and I’d hate to see him go.
“The Napoli fans still have him in their hearts, it’s normal that they can get angry.”
Sarri managed Napoli from 2015 until 2018, winning 97 of his 147 games in charge.
Jorginho was a player in Naples between 2014 and 2018, scoring six goals in 160 appearances, and he has now praised his former fans.
He added: “They’re passionate, they can give you everything.
“They could treat it as a betrayal, they’re like that. We’ll see what happens.”
The 27-year-old as also revealed his thoughts on why he was criticised earlier in the season, and mentioned the style of play in the Premier League.
He continued: “The criticism was probably because of the football culture in England.
“People weren’t used to seeing a player like me in front of the defence. I read the game more and have less physical presence. For the fans, it was all very different and then they blamed me when the results weren’t coming.
“But ultimately I proved that they were wrong about me. In the Premier League, the intensity is much higher and the teams aren’t afraid to attack.”
