Matthijs de Ligt to Barcelona is ‘done’ and Man Utd have known for ages - ESPN reporter
MANCHESTER UNITED target Matthijs de Ligt will join Barcelona this summer, claims ESPN reporter Mark Ogden.
De Ligt WILL move to Barcelona this summer says pundit
Ajax captain De Ligt has been linked with a host of top European clubs in recent weeks.
He led his side to the Champions League semi-final this season before suffering late heartbreak against Tottenham.
Manchester United are keen on the Netherlands international, with Manchester City and Liverpool also rumoured to be interested.
But it appears Barcelona will be the 19-year-old’s destination.
Barca have got the deal done, he will go to Barcelona
Ogden says United accepted two months ago De Ligt would be joining Barca and not them.
He cannot blame De Ligt for turning down United who will not be playing Champions League football next season.
Ogden claims recent rumours about De Ligt have been fuelled by his agent to try and get the defender more money at Barcelona.
“I don’t think [there is any chance of De Ligt joining United],” Ogden said.
“The word from inside United is that yes he is a player they’d really like but they feel that Barcelona had the deal done two months ago and all this noise around him right now is basically agents trying to get more money in terms of salary, more commission.
“Barca have got the deal done, he will go to Barcelona.
“Why wouldn’t you go to Barcelona?
Matthijs De Ligt says he is still unsure over his future
“Man United in the Europa League, Barcelona in the Champions League, weather like this, play with Lionel Messi.
“Even if Man City came in for De Ligt it’s still a hard sell to say ‘Barcelona are in for you, you can play for Barca for 10-15 years, win everything, play in a beautiful city, play with Lionel Messi’.
“How do you say no to that?”
