Man Utd target Bruno Fernandes will only join Man City on ONE condition - Marcotti
MANCHESTER UNITED target Bruno Fernandes will only join Manchester City if Leroy Sane leaves the club this summer.
Man City: Fernandes transfer 'depends on Sane' says pundit
That is the opinion of ESPN FC pundit and European football expert Gabriele Marcotti.
However, Marcotti doubts whether Fernandes is ready to be a regular in the Manchester City side.
Sporting Lisbon midfielder Fernandes has been linked with a move to the Premier League this summer after netting 31 times for the Portuguese side this season.
Manchester United and Manchester City are both said to be keen on the 24-year-old, who has revealed he dreams of playing in England.
Maybe if Leroy Sane moves on from City you could see that
Asked of the two clubs’ interest, Marcotti says Fernandes may not be the right type of player for Pep Guardiola.
But with Sane’s future in doubt amid links with Bayern Munich, he reckons the Portugal ace could be a potential replacement.
“When you get those like ‘City or United’ type things, you know this is an agent pushing his wares,” Marcotti said.
“I think you’re talking about a very gifted player, a player who’s still a little bit raw. But he gives you work rate defensively.
“I don’t know, maybe if Leroy Sane moves on from City you could see that.
“But is he really a City-type player?”
Former Arsenal midfielder Stewart Robson agreed Fernandes may not be best suited to City, but cannot see a move to United either.
“I don’t think [Fernandes is a City-type player],” Robson replied.
“I don’t think he’s quite up to that level yet.
"He’s a hard worker, he will get up and down, he’s a dynamic midfield player.
“But he’s not quite the player I can see Pep Guardiola going for at the moment, or Manchester United at the moment.”
Fernandes has won 11 caps for Portugal since his debut in 2017, scoring one goal.
