Manchester United could make the 'perfect' signing this summer… and he's a free agent
ATLETICO MADRID stalwart Diego Godin would be the perfect signing for Manchester United this summer.
Diego Godin wanted by a lot of clubs claims Shaka Hislop
That is according to ESPN FC pundit and former West Ham goalkeeper Shaka Hislop.
Godin is set to leave Atletico Madrid this summer following the expiry of his contract.
The centre-back spent nine years with the La Liga side, making almost 400 appearances and winning six major honours.
Godin has been linked with a free transfer to Italy with Serie A giants Inter Milan.
He would be a perfect fit for them
He was a reported target for Jose Mourinho and Manchester United towards the end of the last summer transfer window.
Hislop believes despite being 33, Godin is still one of the top defenders around.
And he reckons he would more than do a job for United, helping to improve the less experienced players alongside him.
“Despite his age, still one of the best defenders in world football,” Hislop said.
“Heavily linked with Inter Milan as we were discussing before.
“I think he fits in almost anywhere because of his experience, because of what he can bring.
“Alright, not a long-term solution for anybody, but I think playing alongside a player like Diego Godin makes any young centre-half a whole lot better.
“Inter you say, I think there are a whole lot more clubs who would be, if not should be, interested.
“He would be a perfect fit for them [United], especially with some of the discussions we’ve been having and some of the player that they are seemingly interested in.”
Godin has won 126 caps for Uruguay since his debut in 2005.
He has scored eight goals in total for his country.
