Bayern Munich All-Stars team news: Predicted 5-2-3 line up to face Man Utd in charity game
BAYERN MUNICH will be out for revenge when they face a Manchester United Legends side in a charity match to commemorate the 1999 Champions League final at Old Trafford on Sunday (3pm).
Man United players need 'the right attitude' says Solskjaer
Bayern will be looked to rewrite history when the German giants face United 20 years on from their heartbreaking defeat in the Champions League final.
Ottmar Hitzfeld’s side had led from the opening minutes at the Nou Camp in Barcelona after Mario Basler’s early goal.
However, injury-time strikes from substitutes Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer turned the match around and completed the most unlikely of comebacks for the Red Devils.
Seven members of that defeated Bayern squad are signed up to play in the latest charity clash, with all proceeds going to the Manchester United Foundation.
Former Liverpool defender Markus Babbel is sure to earn some special treatment from the Old Trafford crowd while Sammy Kuffour, Stefan Effenberg and Lothar Matthaus should all start.
Carsten Janker was another member of the starting XI from 1999 and will likely lead the line while Giovane Elber and Thorsten Fink were on the bench two decades ago.
It is unlikely that all seven of these players will start the match, although plenty of rotation is expected among both teams with varying fitness levels throughout the squads.
Hans-Jorg Butt, Hans Pfluger and Daniel van Buyten expected to play a large majority of the match, having featured in previous legends matches between the two sides.
Marcel Witeczek, Markus Schupp, Michael Sternkopf, Roy Makaay and Paulo Sergio have also made appearances in charity fundraisers while Martin Demichelis, Luca Toni and Ivica Olic add some relative youth to the line-up.
With the majority of squad members having been several seasons out of the game, Andreas Ottl will provide fresh legs in midfield having only retired in 2014.
Bayern will be managed by former 1.FC Kaiserslautern manager Michael Henke with player/manager Klaus Augenthaler as his assistant.
Meanwhile, United will be managed by Sir Alex Ferguson and the playing roster contains almost every player from the 1999 squad.
