The Manchester United pair endured a frustrating season as the Red Devils flattered to deceive, both domestically and in Europe.
The Old Trafford club experienced their worst-ever start to a top-flight campaign, leading to Jose Mourinho’s sacking, before a mini-revival under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
However, a run of just two wins in 13 games across all competitions was a miserably way to round off the campaign as United’s highly-paid superstars flopped in front of goal.
Pogba produced a reasonably impressive return of 13 Premier League goals from central midfield this season, although his transfer fee and weekly wage mean the strikes don’t come cheap for United.
A study on behalf of Avec Sport suggests each goal cost an eye-watering £870,000, based on an estimated £94.5million transfer fee and £290,000-a-week salary.
Lukaku’s figures are not much better, with the Belgian’s 12 goals coming at a shocking £650,000 apiece.
At the other end of the scale, a host of less well-known strikers made their mark this season with substantial hauls while receiving comparatively paltry salaries.
Ashley Barnes, Raul Jimenez and Callum Wilson are all among the top five goalscorers offering best value for money, but which veteran striker tops the pile?
