Man Utd make move for Ajax star as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks for David de Gea replacement
OLE GUNNAR SOLSJKAER has identified a replacement for Manchester United contract rebel David de Gea, according to reports.
Man United: David De Gea's future is uncertain says pundit
David de Gea’s current contract with the Manchester United expires at the end of the 2019-20 season.
Manchester United chiefs have been locked in talks with the goalkeeper’s representatives for over a year but have yet to tie the 28-year-old down to a new deal.
It’s understood de Gea wants to stay at Old Trafford but wants parity with United’s top earners before committing his long-term future to the club.
The Spain international wants to be paid a staggering £400,000-a-week, the same sum current United flop Alexis Sanchez earns.
And according to reports, the United board are already preparing for life without the former Atletico Madrid man.
The Daily Record claim the Red Devils have explored signing Ajax stopper Andre Onana as a replacement for De Gea, who had a nightmare season, and have seen an opening bid rejected.
The also claim United have already made overtures to sign the Cameroon international, who impressed many during Ajax’s run to the Champions League semi-finals.
United are also interested in signing Onana’s team-mate Matthijs de Ligt, Ajax’s skipper.
Ajax: Onana jokes Huntelaar is ‘on the bench’
The Red Devils have reportedly explored signing Ajax stopper Andre Onana as a replacement for David de Gea
The 19-year-old Dutchman was a rock at the heart of Ajax’s defence and looked like a player way beyond his years in the Amsterdam side’s unforgettable season.
Manchester United will face immense difficulty signing the centre-back, though, as Barcelona are understood to be interested in acquiring his services and they can’t offer him Champions League football.
A move for Onana is more likely but hinges on the outcome of contract talks with de Gea.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to retain the Spaniard’s services but recently admitted he’s in the dark over his future.
When asked about de Gea’s future in March, Solskjaer said: “No updates from me on that one.
"Of course the club and David are in dialogue, so hopefully they'll agree.
"It's out of my hands anyway, but I'm sure we'll do what we can."
