What Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich DIDN'T discuss with Sarri this week is bizarre
CHELSEA owner Roman Abramovich held a rare meeting with Maurizio Sarri this week - yet the pair DIDN'T discuss the boss' future.
Abramovich was the driving force behind the 'Final Whistle On Hate' fixture against New England Revolution played in America in midweek.
He attended the fixture himself which was a welcome sight for Chelsea fans given the uncertainty around the Russian's future in England.
The UK did not renew his investor's visa in 2018 and the billionaire has stayed away since.
At the same time, plans to rebuild Stamford Bridge into a 60,000-seater stadium have been put on hold.
After Chelsea's 3-0 win, boss Sarri and money-man Abramovich sat down for talks.
However, The Times say the issue of Sarri's future was not brought up between the two - despite major uncertainty over whether the Italian will stay.
Sarri signed a three-year deal at the Bridge last summer and it's unclear whether a fourth-placed finish - and reaching the Europa League final - will be enough to keep his job.
The Times report Sarri is pushing for a decision from Chelsea as to whether they want him to stay with his coaching staff a major issue.
While Chelsea handed Sarri a three-year contract when he arrived, his 11 assistants were only given 12-month deals. It means they are all out of contract and no extensions have been given.
The Times say all are expected to stay if Sarri does keep his job.
Elsewhere at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea have been given a minor boost by the fact they can sign Gonzalo Higuain and Mateo Kovacic permanently this summer due to a loophole in FIFA rules.
The club have been slapped with a two-window transfer ban for the signing of young foreign players which they have appealed against. That, however, has failed.
Chelsea are now considering whether to take their case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport leaving their transfer plans in limbo.
Although they could have a temporary solution - by making the two loan moves permanent as they are already registered with the club.
