How Rangers could look on first day of next season with six signings – Morelos SOLD
RANGERS are set for another summer overhaul as Steven Gerrard looks to freshen up his squad with a host of fresh faces.
The Gers are expected to welcome another clutch of new stars to Ibrox this summer, having signed up a staggering 20 players last year.
Gerrard brought in 13 players on permanent deals and a further seven on loan after taking the reins in Glasgow and Rangers are expected to be busy again as they seek to close the gap on a dominant Celtic side.
Two signings have already been confirmed, with winger Jake Hastie joining from Motherwell and Jordan Jones arriving on a free transfer from Kilmarnock.
Steven Davis has also made his stay at Rangers permanent, having arrived from Southampton on loan last January, while Aberdeen ace Greg Stewart has agreed a deal which will be announced in the near future.
Additional funds could be made available if Alfredo Morelos moves on, having scored 29 goals this season while also picking up 17 yellow and five red cards across the campaign.
NK Osijek frontman Mirko Maric has been identified as a replacement, with the 23-year-old potentially available for around £3m, and would provide competition for veteran Jermain Defoe.
Fenerbahce are also interested in the Croatian, who would be the third Osijek player to join Rangers recently after Borna Barisic and Eros Grezda.
Funds from a Morelos sale could also be used to secure Ryan Kent on a permanent deal, with the Liverpool loanee impressing out wide this season.
Kent is a favourite of Gerrard’s and would be guaranteed first-team football – something that will be hard to come by if he stays at Anfield.
Jurgen Klinsmann’s son Jonathan is being targeted as a potential replacement for goalkeepers Jak Alnwick and Wes Foderingham, who could both leave this summer.
Finally, George Edmundson is reportedly top of Rangers’ list as they look to strengthen in central defence but the Oldham youngster is also being monitored by Sunderland and Hull.
Gerrard also has a decision to make at left-back with Barisic, Jon Flanagan and Andy Halliday having all been deployed there at various times this campaign.
Rangers predicted line-up in 2019/20
(4-2-3-1): Klinsmann; Tavernier, Goldson, Edmundson, Barisic; Arfield, Jack; Hastie, Stewart, Kent; Maric
