Man Utd chief Joel Glazer overrules Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Anthony Martial transfer
MANCHESTER UNITED co-chairman Joel Glazer has overruled Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s decision to sell Anthony Martial this summer.
Man Utd: Burley discusses whether Anthony Martial will leave
Earlier this month, it was reported that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to offload the France international.
The Sun claimed Martial’s attitude in training recent weeks has irked the Norwegian, so much so he’s willing to listen to offers for 23-year-old.
However, it’s understood Glazer has vetoed Solskjaer’s decision to axe the former Monaco man.
Glazer holds the Frenchman in incredibly high regard and sees him as United’s Pele.
His blocking of the sale of Martial is the second time he’s saved the forward’s bacon.
Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho was keen on selling Martial last summer but saw his attempts to offload the striker scuppered by the club.
Martial was instead offered a new five-year deal worth £200,000-a-week, which he promptly signed.
Martial has struggled to hit the heights he reached in his debut season at Old Trafford, in which he scored 17 goals.
He has not reached the level yet where I think he can be
His poor form has attracted criticism from of the United faithful, with many of them wondering if he’ll ever fulfill his potential.
Ex-United hitman Dimitar Berbatov is a fan of his old team-mate and reckons he can become a prolific forward with the right guidance.
“He’s a quiet guy. He’s like me, he keeps to himself. That’s not a bad thing," Berbatov told the Metro.
“He has not reached the level yet where I think he can be.
"The first training session at Monaco I was going: "What the f***?!"
“As a football player, you can see straight away.
"You recognise straight away and this guy he had something.
“He needs someone to say: "Listen this is not the right way, over there is the right way if you want to be the best.’”
