Did you see how defiant Liverpool fans reacted after the final whistle against Wolves?
LIVERPOOL fans put aside their disappointment to show support for Jurgen Klopp's side after missing out on the Premier League title by a single point.
The Reds beat Wolves 2-0 at Anfield on the final day of the season but were pipped to the Premier League title after Manchester City’s 4-1 victory over Brighton.
Liverpool fans were seen on their phones throughout Sunday afternoon’s clash as they searched for news of the game on the south coast.
And supporters couldn’t help but look dejected when the defending champions slammed four goals past the Seagulls at the Amex.
However, the Reds faithful were keen to show their appreciation for their players after the final whistle – lighting flares and chanting despite falling just short of the title.
The home crowd launched into renditions of ‘Allez, Allez, Allez’ and ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ as the Liverpool players took a tour of the pitch.
And red smoke was pictured drifting down from the stands as fans lit their pyrotechnics – although plenty had already been used when the team bus arrived at the ground earlier in the day.
Writing in his programme notes, captain Jordan Henderson revealed the Liverpool players would show their thanks to the fans regardless of the outcome from today’s matches.
"In a time when people across this city and this country have to worry about meeting the everyday costs of living, we know the money they spend supporting us is a sacrifice they make,” he said.
"We know that travelling to Newcastle or Madrid is costly and difficult. So, after this game, regardless of what the outcome of the season is, we will walk around Anfield to say thank you, not to receive it.
"The way we as players see it, in that moment, we’re showing our gratitude and appreciation to you, not the other way around."
Meanwhile, Liverpool legend and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher thinks the only regret his former side will have will be their performances against City this season.
”Liverpool have a manager who is an optimist and will feel he can challenge again next season, but if City are going to get 96, 98, 100 points it’s very difficult to stop,” he said.
“The only thing Liverpool can look back with at regret is they didn’t beat City.
“You can’t expect other people to take points off City if you don’t do it yourselves and Liverpool only took one from six against City.
“Next season they have to look at those games as cup finals and beat them, although that's easier said than done!”
Liverpool have one more match this season, facing Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final at the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid on June 1.
