Man Utd star Ander Herrera makes Liverpool comment in parting message which fans will love
MANCHESTER UNITED midfielder Ander Herrera announced his departure from the club on Saturday - and included a little dig at Liverpool fans for good measure.
Herrera is understood to have agreed terms with French champions Paris Saint-Germain, leading to his departure.
The energetic midfielder’s contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of this season and the club did not meet his demands over an improved deal.
The Spaniard said farewell in a sitdown interview on the Official Manchester United App, looking back on his five years at the club.
When asked about standout matches in his time in Manchester, Herrera cited the 2016/17 Europa League triumph but could not miss out an opportunity to mention the club’s arch rivals.
“I can’t forget as well the victories at Anfield,” Herrera said, smiling.
“I know they are not trophies but they are trophies [in a different way] for the fans.
“The atmosphere the fans create every time we play at Anfield, seeing that corner full of United fans.
“I wasn’t able to score in that match and celebrate with them but that is something I always dreamed of.”
I can’t forget as well the victories at Anfield
Herrera turned out at Anfield six times for United, winning just two of those encounters.
The 29-year-old built up a reputation of being one of the most committed, hard-working, passionate United players in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.
He will wave goodbye to Old Trafford in tomorrow’s game against Cardiff, saying he will always be a Red Devil at heart.
“It’s going to be tough [to say goodbye] because I know I’m not going to keep playing for this club and for the fans.
“All that I lived with them and the connection I have had with them, though, is special and I will never forget it.
“Every time I hear my name chanted t had been amazing, at Old Trafford and also away because we have amazing away fans.
“The only thing that I can say again is I leave very proud and I leave very cam with myself because I have tried and given everything for the club and for the fans.”
