The ONE reason why Brighton can do Liverpool a favour and stop Man City - Shaka Hislop
BRIGHTON can pull off the unthinkable and prevent Manchester City from winning the Premier League title on Sunday.
That is according to ESPN FC pundit and former West Ham goalkeeper Shaka Hislop.
Manchester City know that three points at the Amex on Sunday means they win their second successive Premier League title.
However, Liverpool will be waiting to pounce on any slip up as they aim to beat Wolves at Anfield.
Brighton have not won since early March but are now safe from relegation.
Maybe, just maybe, the incredible happens
The Seagulls have drawn three of their last four matches, including taking two points off Arsenal at the Emirates last weekend.
Hislop admits it is unlikely Brighton will have enough to quell Manchester City’s attacking prowess.
However, he says there is a little bit of hope that Liverpool fans can hold onto due to the freedom Chris Hughton’s side can play with.
“If I’m sitting in the Liverpool dressing room, and I am being ultra-positive here, I am thinking about Brighton, who’d been awful for weeks leading up to what was a slight change of fortune,” Hislop said.
“As soon as it was mathematically guaranteed that they were staying in the league, I think they played some of their best football.
“A draw against Arsenal, a draw against Newcastle, very narrow loss to Spurs.
“And maybe after playing with all that pressure and all that time, now you know you’re staying up, you can play with a little bit freedom.
“And maybe, just maybe, the incredible happens.
“Now, as a neutral sitting behind this desk, I’m not putting any money on Brighton to get anything from City.
“But if I’m Liverpool, I’m hoping for a miracle and focussing on what I have to do.
“Given the high that they would inevitably be on, I almost feel sorry for Wolves at this point.”
