What Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said when asked if Daniel James is signing
MANCHESTER UNITED boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did not give much away when asked whether the club are closing in on Swansea City’s Daniel James.
Man United: Daniel James recommended by Ryan Giggs
It was reported on Friday by Sky Sports that United are close to agreeing a fee in the region of £15million for the talented winger.
James has enjoyed a standout campaign for Swansea in the Championship this season, which has seen him break into Ryan Giggs’ Wales squad.
Speaking ahead United’s final game of the Premier League season against Cardiff of Sunday, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was asked whether the reports were genuine.
“Well it’s been mentioned, I don’t know how many names have been mentioned since I’ve come in,” Solskjaer said.
“There’s players that I’ve barely seen that I’ve read we are going to sign.
“There’s loads of speculation, but the earlier you can do the transfers the better it is.
“When you come in on the first of July, you like to have a nice picture of what this team is going to look like.”
James scored a stunning winner for Wales against Slovakia in a 1-0 win at Cardiff City Stadium back in March.
Man Utd boss Solskjaer praises Phelan appointment
The 21-year-old is now getting valuable experience from Giggs and his childhood hero Gareth Bale while on international duty.
"It's massive for me to learn off the gaffer and Gareth," James said.
"They've obviously shown a lot to me and the gaffer said to me before the game 'go and do what you've been doing at Swansea'.
"Gareth just said 'keep getting at the full-back' and that's what I did."
James is known for his raw pace and willingness to run at defenders, something that will excite United supporters ahead of a potential deal.
He is reaping the rewards from the faith Giggs is putting in young players for the national team, including the likes of David Brooks and Harry Wilson.
"It's massive the way the gaffer has trusted in all of us," James added.
"It gives us loads of licence, especially going forward.
"Obviously you've got to do the defensive bits, but when we've got the ball in midfield we've got players who can find us in behind."
