Steve Nicol tells Ajax star to REJECT move to Liverpool for ONE reason
AJAX winger David Neres should NOT join Liverpool - because he would not be a regular starter for the Reds.
Ajax: David Neres should REJECT Liverpool move claims Nicol
That is according to ESPN FC pundit and legendary Liverpool defender Steve Nicol.
Neres has been linked with a move to Anfield after a fine season at Ajax.
The Brazilian has played a big part in the Dutch side’s run to the Champions League semi-final, where they face Tottenham in the second leg on Wednesday.
Nicol is a fan of the 22-year-old, who has scored 12 goals in all competitions this term.
If I’m Neres, I’m looking at Liverpool’s front three and I’m asking myself ‘am I going to this team to start?'
However, he says for Neres’ own career, he should move to a club where he is more guaranteed first-team football.
Nicol cannot see Neres starting ahead of Liverpool attacking trio Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino or Sadio Mane.
“This is a strange one, Neres to Liverpool,” Nicol said on ESPN FC's transfer rater.
“If I’m Neres, I’m looking at Liverpool’s front three and I’m asking myself ‘Am I going to this team to start? Or am I going to this team to back up to begin with?’.
“He’s certainly at a level of his ability and what he’s producing that he has to go somewhere and play.
“I think that rules Liverpool out.
“Everything else is perfect, the amount of money they are talking about is a little strange.
“I read somewhere it was like £35m - there’s no way they’re letting him for for as little as that.
“So actually, to answer the question of Neres to Liverpool, I don’t see it.
“I see Liverpool coming up with a younger player, who’s maybe not quite ready to step in the shoes of the front three yet.
“So this one for me is a no.
“From his point of view, he wants to go somewhere and play.”
