LIVERPOOL hero John Barnes went wild in the beIN SPORTS studio after the Reds stunned Barcelona and dumped them out of the Champions League.
Liverpool vs Barcelona: John Barnes celebrates Reds win
Goals from Georginio Wijnaldum and Divock Origi secured Liverpool’s place in the Champions League final in dramatic style.
The Reds overcame a 3-0 deficit to dump Catalan giants Barcelona out of the competition.
Former Liverpool striker John Barnes channelled Liverpool fans up and down the country in the beIn SPORTS studio last night.
He started celebrating and shouting at the top of his voice after Origi scored Liverpool’s fourth goal.
The enforced change proved pivotal
The Reds legend was overjoyed after the fourth goal went in, and didn’t know whether to throw his arms in the air and jump up and down, or whether to slam his hands down on the desk with joy.
His reaction came after a quickly taken corner from Trent Alexander-Arnold picked out Origi in the penalty area.
The Barcelona defence were caught napping, allowing the Belgian striker to side-foot home Liverpool’s tie-winning goal.
Liverpool scored three goals in the second half to make sure they progress to the second Champions League final in two years.
It required a monumental effort after Barcelona had beaten Liverpool 3-0 at the Nou Camp, six days previously.
Liverpool went into half-time 1-0 up, after Origi scored his first goal of the night after seven minutes.
The striker pounced on a loose save from Marc-André ter Stegen to open the scoring.
Barcelona had a number of opportunities to finish the tie, including a big chance for former Reds player Luis Suarez, but it was easily saved by Alisson.
After half-time, Gini Wijnaldum came onto the pitch after an injury to Andrew Robertson.
The enforced change proved pivotal after he scored two goals in three minutes to bring Liverpool back to 3-3 on aggregate.
After the final whistle, fans were sent into delirium after what was, possible, the best European night in Anfield’s history.
Speaking after the match, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said: “It’s a special night, very special. Winning against Barcelona is obviously one of the most difficult things in the world of football; winning against Barcelona when you are actually 3-0 down makes it not easier.
“We had to score four goals and it was not allowed to concede pretty much. That made it, again, more difficult."
Meanwhile, injured Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita leapt to his feet and ripped off his recovery pad to celebrate the victory.
But, the Guinea international appeared to grimace after stumbling on his injured leg.
