Graeme Souness names the Liverpool players that are ANGRY
LIVERPOOL legend Graeme Souness has named the Reds players who will be angry - with themselves.
Liverpool lost 3-0 to Barcelona on Wednesday in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.
A brace from Lionel Messi in the second half added to Luis Suarez’s goal to give Barca what seemed like a comfortable win.
But it was anything but and Liverpool could easily have scored two or three goals themselves.
Speaking ahead of the Premier League trip to Newcastle on Saturday, Souness said every player who featured against Barcelona will be angry with the outcome at the Nou Camp.
I think they will be angry with themselves Liverpool, thinking ‘we’ve not done a lot wrong'
But he admits the result was more down to luck than a bad performance.
“If I’d been in that dressing room afterwards, I’m thinking ‘how did that just happen?’,” Souness said on Sky Sports.
“They’ve lost 3-0, they played well, they created chances, I think they had most of the ball, and they’ve lost 3-0.
“It could have been 3-3, it could have been 5-0 they lost. It was a mad game of football.
“I think [the Liverpool players are feeling] more anger.
“You’ve played in a game, and we’ve all done it, you’ve played in a game and you think ‘we’ve done well tonight but Lady Luck wasn’t with us’.
“You can maybe point to the first goal and think someone might have done something, Jordan Henderson might have got closer to [Jordi] Alba to stop the cross, [Virgil] Van Dijk might have been more on his toes.
“But I’d be happy to score a goal like that, if my team scored a goal like that.
“I think they will be angry with themselves Liverpool, thinking ‘we’ve not done a lot wrong, we should have got a lot more from the game than a 3-0 hiding’.
“I think you turn up here [at St James’ Park], if you’re a big player, which they have, I think you turn up here tonight and you’re angry with yourself and you want to get rid of that taste in your mouth as quickly as you possibly can.”
