And Messi didn't hide his feelings as he wheeled away and slid across the turf in celebration.
The magician then spread his arms and was clearly delighted with his effort as Barcelona took a huge step towards the Champions League final.
Messi was instrumental in helping the Catalan club take a 3-0 victory against the Premier League title contenders.
It makes it a tough task for Liverpool next Tuesday in the second leg at Anfield.
The game was closer than the 3-0 scoreline suggested with Liverpool unable to capitalise on periods in the match they dominated.
And Messi made them pay with yet another display of his amazing talents.
The 31-year-old matched arch-rival Ronaldo with his 600th goal and his 48th of yet another unbelievable season.

BT Sport pundit Rio Ferdinand couldn't believe the performance he had witnessed from Messi at full-time.
He said: “Once again that man on your screen there decided I will take this game over and take it away from the opposing team.
“The free-kick was unbelievable.
“To be here for these moments it is stuff if I can tell my kids and grandkids one day.
“The individual brilliance, the way he appreciates team-mates, his decision making is all phenomenal and then he executes.”
Robbie Savage also enjoyed quite a night at the Nou Camp.
He said "What a spectacle.
"Barcelona could have won by five or six at the end but it could have been 3-3. Liverpool missed chances but were so vulnerable on the counter.
"It will take an unbelievable second leg performance to make it to the final."
