Graeme Souness names the one Liverpool star who should be ANGRY with Jurgen Klopp
LIVERPOOL captain Jordan Henderson should be ANGRY with manager Jurgen Klopp for being left out of the starting XI against Barcelona.
Liverpool 'did the job well' against Barcelona says Souness
That is the opinion of former Liverpool midfielder and manager Graeme Souness.
Henderson was a surprise omission from the Reds starting XI for the Champions League semi-final first leg at the Nou Camp on Wednesday.
Klopp opted to go with James Milner, Georginio Wijnaldum, Fabinho and Naby Keita in midfield ahead of the England international.
Souness questioned the decision by Klopp before the match and says Henderson would be right in feeling aggrieved.
He’s entitled to be angry if he’s fit
“The midfield’s an interesting one,” Souness said on Virgin Media Sport.
“Can I start with Henderson, who is the captain of your team.
“Not involved, is he fit? Is he 100 per cent fit?
“He’s entitled to be angry if he’s fit.
“He’s your captain, been outstanding the last few weeks.”
Henderson did not have to wait long until he was part of the action though.
Keita was forced off with an injury midway through the first half and the 28-year-old took his place.
Trent Alexander-Arnold was also surprisingly left out of the side, with Joe Gomez getting the nod at right-back.
But Souness agreed with that call from Jurgen Klopp.
“He’s left Trent Alexander out because he’s a young man whose best attributes is going forward and being on the front foot,” he added.
“Defensively, he’s still learning the game so he feels Gomez is the best defender.
“He’s not played a lot of football, Gomez, in the last few months.
“But he sees him as a better defender so that’s a common sense one I feel.”
Liverpool went on to lose the game 3-0 after a second-half brace from Lionel Messi.
