David de Gea ‘fallen out of love’ with Man Utd and ‘checked out’ for summer exit - Hislop
DAVID DE GEA has fallen out of love with Manchester United and will leave the club in the summer.
That is the opinion of ESPN FC pundit and former West Ham goalkeeper Shaka Hislop.
De Gea has committed a series of high-profile mistakes in recent weeks for Manchester United.
That comes with doubts over his long-term future at the club being played over in the background.
The Spaniard’s contract expires at the end of next season and he is understood to want a huge wage increase to match the club's highest earner Alexis Sanchez.
Felt that he probably deserved a better deal and fell out of love with Manchester United as a result
Speaking about De Gea’s mistake against Chelsea on Sunday, Hislop said it will be difficult for the 28-year-old to come back from it.
“I’m not sure how David De Gea gets himself out of this in all honesty,” Hislop said.
“I think what you’re seeing is a product of a number of issues.
“I think he’s not happy with the club, felt that he probably deserved a better deal and fell out of love with Manchester United as a result.
“And then all of a sudden you have this dip in form and you don’t have anything to fall back on, in terms of passion, or even as good as you’ve been for so long.
“Now, because you’re disconnected from the club, you don’t have the kind of emotional response.”
Hislop has since said he expects De Gea to leave United this summer, saying he has already “checked out”.
He reckons Paris Saint-Germain is the most likely destination for the goalkeeper.
“I think De Gea has emotionally checked out of Old Trafford,” Hislop said.
“He’s going somewhere, as far as I’m concerned, this summer.
“PSG for me the most likely option.
“Option number two is Real Madrid but they have their issues, can they move [Thibaut] Courtois? I think they can.
“But as of right now, PSG just seems the most likely of his destinations.”
