Glenn Hoddle reveals concern over THREE Tottenham players because of Liverpool
TOTTENHAM’s defeat at Liverpool showed a concern over three of their first-team stars.
Tottenham vs Ajax: Glenn Hoddle reveals Spurs’ chances
That is the opinion of Tottenham legend and BT Sport pundit Glen Hoddle.
Hoddle was speaking ahead of Spurs’ Champions League semi-final first leg against Ajax on Tuesday.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino opted to go for a back three for the visit of the Dutch side.
Three former Ajax players, Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez and Jan Vertonghen, all lined up in defence for the north London outfit.
The back three does concern me a little bit
But Hoddle was worried about the trio because of the recent defeat at Liverpool.
Liverpool beat Tottenham 2-1 at Anfield in March thanks to a late Alderweireld goal.
Hoddle believed going with three at the back was a problem for Pochettino’s side on that day.
And he hoped it would not cost his former side at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against Ajax on Tuesday.
“The back three does concern me a little bit,” Hoddle said.
“When they played it at Liverpool in the league, they got absolutely overrun and went into a five.
“If they do this tonight against Ajax, they’ve got a problem with their full-backs coming.
“I hope that for Tottenham’s sake they’ve sorted that out.
“They had to change it after half an hour at Liverpool and looked much better.
“Hopefully they will go out on the front foot here.”
Ajax won the game 1-0 thanks to a first-half goal from Donny van de Beek.
