Man Utd news: Pundit reveals why Marcus Rashford comments show dressing room problems
MARCUS RASHFORD declaring that he and his team-mates need to put in more effort in order to end their slump has shown how poor atmosphere in the Manchester United dressing room is.
That’s the view of former Liverpool star Steve Nicol, who blasted Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side as “a disgrace”.
United are on a terrible run of form in recent games, having lost seven of their last nine games.
On Wednesday night, they were defeated 2-0 by arch rivals Manchester City, thanks to goals from Bernardo Silva and Leroy Sane.
The loss means that United will now face an uphill battle to get into the top four, as they are now three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea as the two sides prepare to do battle on Sunday.
Speaking after the loss to City, Rashford called out his team-mates and claimed they need to put in more effort.
“Today we didn’t play like Man United,” he said. “We’ve not been playing like Man United and that’s not right.
“By a minimum it should be to work hard and give your all for the badge.”
Speaking on ESPN FC, Nicol slammed Rashford and his team-mates for even bringing into question how hard they work.
“The bottom line is the fact we’re talking about Manchester Untied and we’re wasting time talking about a team who is trying, is absolutely ludicrous,” he fumed.
“At Manchester United, that’s an absolute disgrace.
“It’s a huge disgrace on those Manchester United players, that their willingness to try hard is being questioned.
“Rashford is the youngest player in the dressing room, and it shows what a poor dressing room they’ve got the youngest player in the team - who is still trying to figure out his game - weighing in on what’s wrong.
“Clearly from what he’s saying, he’s reading the papers as well.
“Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as well, all he’s trying to do is cover up for his team. He’s saying the effort is there, I’ve never had one of my managers ever, ever praise us for trying hard.
“Then he’s trying to convince us that they’re actually making chances, and they’ve just got to take their chances.
“First of all you’ve got to make a decent chance, which they haven’t done for goodness knows how many games.
“There’s a lot of things wrong, the worst one is that we’re even having to question whether they’re trying.”
