Ledley King names surprise Tottenham ace as player of the season
MOUSSA SISSOKO has been Tottenham’s best player this season, claims Spurs hero Ledley King.
Spurs vs Man City: Moussa Sissoko reacts to 1-0 victory
Sissoko had a difficult first two seasons at Tottenham after joining from Newcastle for £30million in the summer of 2016.
However, the France international has shone this term in a central midfield role.
The powerful 29-year-old started the Premier League clash against Huddersfield on Saturday, his 25th start in that competition this campaign.
Sissoko assisted Lucas Moura for Spurs’ second goal and impressed Jamie Redknapp at half time.
It’s great play from Sissoko and he’s been doing this most of the season
“The play from the Sissoko and the power that he showed, that’s what you want,” Redknapp said on Sky Sports.
“I think you said earlier on Ledley you think he might be Spurs’ best player this season.”
King was working alongside Redknapp and explained how vital Sissoko has been, especially since the departure of Mousa Dembele in January.
And he put the midfielder above the likes of Heung-min Son and Harry Kane as Spurs' best player this season.
“It’s great play from Sissoko and he’s been doing this most of the season,” King said.
“Driving from midfield and he’s put a great little ball at the end of it and it’s a great finish from Lucas.
“Yeah I do [think he has been Spurs’ best player this season].
“I just think he’s been so important.
Pochettino praises Sissoko after victory over Inter Milan
“Obviously we know how big a player Dembele was for the club and how important he was.
“But I feel that Sissoko has almost filled that space.
“His physical presence in midfield, his power, very difficult to get past in defensive positions and he’s got that driving force that we know Dembele did have where he could beat a man and drive past people.
“And Sissoko’s showing that side as well.”
Spurs beat Huddersfield 4-0 which took them back to third in the Premier League table.
