‘If I was him, I wouldn’t sign’ - Jamie Carragher makes Chelsea transfer admission
CHELSEA star Callum Hudson-Odoi shouldn’t sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge this summer, Jamie Carragher claims.
Chelsea: Sarri admits Hudson-Odoi could be a 'risk'
The England international wanted to join Bayern Munich in the January transfer window.
However, Chelsea refused to sell the 18-year-old winger.
Hudson-Odoi has since gone on to start two Premier League games for the Blues under Maurizio Sarri - as well as making his England debut.
It’s claimed Chelsea are willing to offer the winger a five-year contract to keep him at Stamford Bridge.
He’s in a very strong position
However, pundit Carragher says Hudson-Odoi shouldn’t commit his future to the Blues.
The Liverpool hero instead thinks the England ace should see if he gets regular game time next season before making a final decision.
“If I was Hudson-Odoi, I wouldn’t sign,” Carragher said on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.
“I know he’s been at the club [since he was seven]. He’s in a very strong position.
“I’m not saying don’t sign to try and get more money or cause some big problem. I love the fact this lad hasn’t signed a contract.
“Not because of a money thing or wanting to join Bayern Munich, but because he wants to play.
“There’s that frustration there at a young age. He’s still young.
“I’m not saying he should be playing every week but I love the courage he’s showing.
“Too often I think players sign long contracts, they’re on lots of money and in some ways, you think where is their career going?
Chelsea: Hudson-Odoi to leave to get more minutes says Burley
“He’s willing to say, ‘if I don’t play, I want to go’.
“I wouldn’t be going at the end of the season if I was him, I’d use the last year of my contract as leverage.
“This lad wants to play. He’s saying to Chelsea ‘prove to me how important I am to you’.
“I’ve got great respect for what this lad is doing. If he plays enough next season he should sign a contract, if not, move on.”
Hudson-Odoi impressed for Chelsea on Monday night as the Blues beat West Ham 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.
