Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp backed to launch Callum Wilson transfer raid - EXCLUSIVE
LIVERPOOL could make a move for Callum Wilson this summer as Jurgen Klopp looks ahead to the transfer window.
That’s the view of Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling, who believes the Reds shouldn’t need too many signings.
Liverpool strengthened their squad considerably last summer with the signings of Naby Keita, Fabinho, Alisson and Xherdan Shaqiri.
The strength in depth has helped the Reds challenge for the Premier League title and they battled back from a goal down to beat Southampton on Friday.
It comes despite their frontline struggling in comparison to last season.
Mohamed Salah hasn’t reached the same form he hit last year, though has still managed 18 Premier League goals.
And Stelling believes Klopp could enhance his attacking options when the transfer window opens this summer.
“They don’t really need to strengthen anywhere,” Stelling, who will complete four walking marathons in four days in four nations from 5-8 September 2019 for Prostate Cancer UK, exclusively told Express Sport.
“Hopefully they’ll have the Ox [Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain] next season. He’s missed a huge amount of this season, just when he was really impressing for them.
“[Adam] Lallana has missed a huge portion but is getting back and they’ll have him next season.
“Naby Keita hasn’t pulled up many trees but he’s a good player and we will probably see the best of him next season, and probably the best of Fabinho too.
“They’ve got a cracking squad. Maybe they need another central defender, but that might be Joe Gomez when he’s fit again.
“They might look at putting another out and out striker, a Callum Wilson for example?”
Liverpool have easier run-in than Man City says Ian McGarry
Wilson was linked with a move to Anfield in January, with Chelsea also believed to be interested.
The Bournemouth star has netted 11 Premier League goals this season, as well as laying on six assists.
Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals Everton have also been linked with Wilson, who was part of the England squad for the recent Euro 2020 qualifiers.
Jeff Stelling will be embarking on his third March for Men for Prostate Cancer UK on 5-8 September, this time walking four marathons in four countries in four days. Football fans in Belfast, Cardiff, Glasgow and London will have the option to join him in an epic series of marathon marches as he aims to take his fundraising total since 2016 to £1m.
