Solskjaer has shown this Man Utd side can replicate ONE key Ferguson attribute - Townsend
OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER has proven his Manchester United side can replicate one key attribute from the Sir Alex Ferguson era.
That is the verdict of TV pundit and former Aston Villa midfielder Andy Townsend.
Townsend was speaking following Manchester United’s 2-1 victory over Watford on Saturday.
The win took the Red Devils back into the Champions League qualification places, above Arsenal.
Watford’s goal through Abdoulaye Doucoure did not come until the closing stages but manager Javi Gracia may feel unlucky not to leave Old Trafford with anything.
With Sir Alex it wasn’t always brilliant every week. It’s about getting over the line
Townsend claims it is a positive for United to win when they are not at their best.
And he says that is something Ferguson’s team did on countless occasions.
“Yeah they needed a win just to get over the line,” Townsend told Premier League Productions.
“With Sir Alex it wasn’t always brilliant every week. It’s about getting over the line.
“They perfected the art of doing that and today Ole will be pleased that they managed to get all three.”
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted his side were poor against Watford, but acknowledged you cannot be on top of your game every week.
"It was a really nervy last five minutes,” Solskjaer told the BBC.
“They made it difficult for us and it seemed as though we were still on holiday or the international break.
"You can't play well in every game and get the points you deserve.
“Both teams feel they should have points.
"When I won trophies here, we didn't play well in every game.
“Today, we won on a below-par game but it was against a good team and we have to acknowledge Watford.
"What did we lack? Zip, urgency, and fitness."
