‘Millions’ of people will DISAGREE with what Andy Townsend has said about Liverpool
LIVERPOOL winning the Premier League title would be good for English football, claims former Chelsea midfielder Andy Townsend.
Liverpool have 'excellent' chance of winning league says Parlour
Liverpool are currently top of the Premier League table with seven games of the season remaining.
Manager Jurgen Klopp is aiming to win the club their first top-flight title in 29 years.
Second-placed Manchester City, who are two points behind Liverpool, do have a game in hand and are the favourites to land their second successive title.
However, Townsend wants to see Liverpool triumph over them, even if many people do not.
I think it would be great for the Premier League and it’s been such a long time
“Personally I would love to see Liverpool win it,” Townsend said on Premier League Today.
“I think it would be great for the Premier League and it’s been such a long time.
“I know lots would disagree, probably millions out there watching.
“But I’ve really enjoyed watching Liverpool.
“I think when they’re at their absolute foot-to-the-floor best, I think they’re a very, very good team.”
Manchester United legend Gary Pallister disagreed with Townsend, saying he wants and thinks City will win the league.
“I think they’ve got the experience of doing it,” Pallister said of City.
“I think they’ve got a better squad, I think they’ve got better depth in their squad than Liverpool maybe have.
Man City: Squad depth gives edge in the title race says pundit
“Liverpool were good last year, I think they’ve taken it up a notch again this year.
“And to be competitive with a team like Manchester City, you’ve got to pay testament to that for Liverpool.
“But I just think the quality and the size of the squad at Manchester City is going to tell in the end.”
