Man Utd star Paul Pogba was STOPPED from completing Real Madrid transfer by ONE man
PAUL POGBA saw a transfer to Real Madrid collapse in 2016 because of his agent Mino Raiola.
That is the claim from Spanish publication AS, who reckon Pogba would now be a Real Madrid player had it not been for his agent.
Pogba, 26, is currently into his third season back at Manchester United.
The former Red Devils academy star quit United for Juventus when he was just 19 - only to return two-and-a-half years ago.
Pogba cost United £89m back in the summer of 2016 - becoming the world’s most expensive player in the process.
But United may have counted themselves lucky for landing the France international at all, after Real tried and failed to snap him up.
That is the claim from AS, who reckon Raiola is the sole reason Paul Pogba is currently at United.
As Express Sport reported back in 2016, Real were very interested in bringing Pogba to the Bernabeu.
Manager Zinedine Zidane had just won the first of three straight Champions League crowns and had money to spend in the transfer market.
PAUL POGBA DREAMS OF REAL MADRID
Conversations between president Florentino Perez and his Juventus counterparts took place, with Raiola the middle man over the summer months.
Real thought they had a deal wrapped up but Raiola wanted a hefty fee as part of any transfer of his top client.
And Real refused to accept Raiola’s demands.
It was this relationship - or lack of - between the the agent and Real president Perez that ruined any chance of Pogba heading to Spain.
And indeed it will likely take Raiola and Perez to make up if Pogba is ever to head to Madrid in the future.
Speaking on Wednesday, the World Cup winner admitted it remains his “dream” to play for Real Madrid one day.
"Like I've always said, Real Madrid is a dream for anyone," he told reporters.
"It's one of the biggest clubs in the world.
“There is also Zidane as a coach and it's a dream for anybody who likes football.”
But Pogba appears realistic about his chances of nailing a move away from Manchester United to La Liga any time soon.
“For now, I'm at Manchester,” he said.
“We don't know what the future holds.
“I’m at Manchester and I'm happy."
