Ryan Babel celebration: This is what Fulham striker did when SCORING goal vs Liverpool
RYAB BABEL scored against his old club Liverpool for Fulham today - but refused to celebrate the strike.
Fulham: Ryan Babel’s van Dijk comments mocked by pundits
Ryan Babel has been part of Fulham’s relegation battle this season.
The former Liverpool striker only joined Fulham during the January transfer window and had scored just once before today.
But Babel was gifted a goal against his former club when mistakes from James Milner and Virgil van Dijk let the Cottagers frontman in on goal.
Babel ended up tapping in his effort from close range after the Reds defensive mix-up.
And rather than celebrate wildly, the striker simply picked up the ball and then lifted his hands up - almost apologising to the Reds supporters.
The goal made it 1-1 at the Cottage but James Milner's converted penalty 10 minutes from time restored Liverpool's advantage.
After the match Babel said: "Obviously I respect the club. I support the club as a fan."
The 2-1 win for Liverpool sees the Reds move top of the Premier League table - two points ahead of Manchester City, who have a game in hand.
And Jurgen Klopp was pleased his side held on for the win.
"It was a bit like we are - we started really well, did a lot of good things and lost the rhythm a little bit,” he said.
"I'm not the most experienced manager but I've had similar problems after Champions League games - the first half is a bit rusty.
“We could've finished it off in the second half but if you don't kill the game at 1-0 up it's clear something like that can happen.
"I have no doubt about my players' nerves. I always want perfection but it's rare that you get it.
“People will say we should be more convincing in games like this but this is us, we are in the middle of a development, not at the end.
“How the boys dealt with it was brilliant."
