Celtic fans will hate what Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers has planned
BRENDAN RODGERS is risking the wrath of the Celtic fans once again as the Leicester boss is preparing a £25million bid for Kieran Tierney.
Brendan Rodgers opens up about 'horrendous' burglary
Rodgers angered supporters when he left for the Foxes last month with Celtic on the brink of an historic treble-treble.
They displayed a banner when they played Hearts just hours after his exit that read: “You traded immortality for mediocrity. Never a Celt. Always a Fraud.”
And now The Sun claim Rodgers wants to take versatile defender Tierney, 21, with him to the King Power Stadium.
Scotland international Tierney is a natural left-back but can play as a wing-back and has been deployed as a centre-back on the left of a three-man defence for both club and country.
He could come in as a replacement for current first-choice left-back Ben Chilwell as the highly-rated 21-year-old is a reported target for Manchester City.
Signing one of Celtic’s best players would infuriate the club’s supporters further, although Rodgers was quick to play down the bad feeling between them.
The Northern Irishman led them to two Scottish Premiership titles, two Scottish Cups and three Scottish League cups before leaving.
He says he is delighted by the reception he has received since making the switch and insists it the decision to leave Celtic was not taken lightly.
Speaking after their 3-1 win over Fulham, he said: “I have been received very well.
“A lot has been made of me coming here. I left a special club in Celtic and I wasn’t just going to come out of there for anything.
“I have joined a club I feel has huge potential and days like today make it worth that.
“They have received me very well. The players and the supporters have been great, but what you have to do is win games.
On the game, he added: “We won well today but there are lots of improvements to come.
“We still have a long way to go and we need to control the midfield better, that is for sure.
“I have been pleased with the idea to press and we need to improve our fitness in our football for sure, but what is key is to get players up and around [Jamie] Vardy because when he tries something the ball breaks down there is numbers up there to support him.”
