Chelsea fans are RAGING with Emerson for 'SHAMBOLIC' defending in Wolves draw
CHELSEA fans are RAGING with left-back Emerson after the defender failed to get back as Wolves’ Raul Jimenez ran through on goal to open the scoring at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea went 1-0 down after 56 minutes thanks to a brilliant counter-attack by Nuno Espirito Santo’s team.
And despite calls by Blues fans for Emerson to start the game ahead of Marcos Alonso, the Brazilian-Italian hasn’t covered himself in glory with this one.
In the lead up to the goal, the 24-year-old can be seen barely tracking back, jogging at a snail’s pace.
At one stage David Luiz charges past the defender in his effort to get back into position.
Jimenez went on to slot the ball home, via a deflection off defender Cesar Azpilicueta.
And Chelsea fans were quick to point out Emerson’s lack of effort to try and stop the goal happening.
Here are some of the best responses on Twitter:
One said: “Emerson does not even track Jimenez's run. Shambolic defending.”
Another simply said: “Emerson has been bad today.”
One even accused Emerson of comparing himself to Cristiano Rondldo: “Emerson thinks he's 2008 Cristiano.”
One sarcastically said: “Emerson the best left back of all time.”
Another came out with an odd comparison, tweeting: “Morata v Higuaín is definitely equivalent to Alonso v Emerson. Like, one's kinda better, but not by much.”
Another said: “Emerson not having a good game.”
Another lamented the decision to not start Alonso, tweeting: “Why did they even put emerson rather alonso wtf man.”
A Wolves fan got in on the act, writing: “Bring that Traore on. He will spin Emerson on his head with his pace.”
And another noted that the left-back was WORSE than Alonso, tweeting: “Emerson is actually just as bad as Alonso #CFC.”
A loss for Chelsea would damage their hopes of getting into the top four of the Premier League, with Manchester United still to play Arsenal later today.
Chelsea did managed to equalise, though, thanks to a wonderful stoppage time strike from Eden Hazard.
